Unread books

This list is the 106 books most often noted as unread by Library Thing users. Bold is for books you've read. Italics for books you've started but haven't finished. Strikethrough is for books you found unreadable. Stolen from [info]kc_anathema.

The books: )

Hmmm, more than I thought, but probably less than I should have read. I recognise most of the titles and could probably name most of the authors. It's interesting to see so much Neil Gaimen on the list, but I understand why. I read his short stories collection, Smoke and Mirrors, and have only been more depressed by 1984 and The Handmaid's Tale.

.. but these things really are important ;)

Wednesday 19th September is International Talk Like A Pirate Day! Unfortunately, I will be at a funeral that day, where I'm not too sure that talking like a pirate will be appropriate.

So everyone needs to talk like a pirate on my behalf :D

Many thanks to [info]seleneheart for reccing Written By The Victors by written by Speranza. It's very long, and it takes a little while to get used to the style, but trust me, it is worth it! Sixteen pages of comments can't be wrong.

On a totally different note, we have The Schedule, which is (a comparatively short) 8000 words of amusing, sweet and very hot smut.

Go forth and read...

Moving to IJ for Dummies

As promised for several weeks, "Moving to IJ for Dummies", your guide to mirroring and cross-posting, including a few points about Semagic that you really need to know.

Mirroring your journal )

Cross-posting )

And that's the essentials sorted. Now you just have to go through your journal at your new home and re-tag *yawn* and find a layout that you like. I recommend using Bloggish and having a hunt through its themes. If you have a paid account (for IJ) you can create your own layers or nab them from here. There's also details here on how to replicate a 3-column layout on IJ.

Final things to do )
</ul>

And I think that's everything...

Rec and hello!

Hello to all my new friends from the [info]phoenix_flies Friending Frenzy! *waves*

Just to be contrary, I'm reccing a fic on LJ to everyone: Nineteen Years Later was [info]softly_sweetly's first reaction to the Epilogue of Dhoom. She's not terribly happy with it, so get over there, read it and give her some love!

Linkyness

Two recs and a meta link today:

First rec is another offering from [info]lomonaaeren, who is climbing steadily higher on my all-time favourite authors list. Her latest tale, A Reckless Frame of Mind (IJ or here for LJ) is preslash, elegantly written and with great emotional intensity. I believe a sequel is planned and I'm already eagerly awaiting it.

Second up is crack!fic from the lovely [info]eeyore9990. I got to the last line of this and nearly died of the giggles. I prudently decided not to explain the hysterics to my long-suffering boyfriend who, I think, would not have appreciated the story the way I did. Ahem...

Finally, some discourse on the fragmentation of fandom caused by Boldthrough, and why it could actually be a good thing for fandom, from [info]femmequixotic. I have to agree with her; I've made so many more posts since I moved to IJ because I want to actively promote fandom on this site, and get things moving again. And that can only be a good thing, no?

Quick question

..for all those using Semagic to cross-post:

Are your tags making it onto IJ? Mine are only making onto LJ...

ETA: Found a solution.

Not checking two flists for three days seems to be a bad plan. I had intended to make my "Cross-posting for Dummies" post this evening, but I've caught up on about half the fics I want to read and it really is time for bed. I have an interview tomorrow that I totally wasn't expecting. Expect a big RL post in about a week, when I know wtf is going on.

Anyway, choice gem of the evening is Stung by pushdragon (on LJ). Having had about 30 tabs open at one point, I have no clue where I got this rec from, but I suspect it may have been [info]celandineb. Anyway, this fic is Taming of the Shrew, post-war style :D Highly amusing, and kind of sweet at the end.

Also, I've noticed that email notifications are now working, but they're all coming to the same thread in my gmail. Is anyone else finding this?

Yay, first rec for the new journal

Something to keep it interesting by [info]jamie2109. H/D obviously, NC-17 obviously and 8900 words. Contains witty repartee, UST and a big fight.

Must. Upload. More. Icons.....

Some links that people might like to know about (if they don't already):

beyond_lj, which is a fandom directory for all those setting up shop elsewhere, so that people can find you again.

pay_no_more, a place for LJ account holders (paid, permanent, whatever) "To estimate the number of people whose decision to stop paying for theLiveJournal accounts was caused by their dissatisfaction and/ordisagreement with the 6A/LJ behaviour in the sequence of events thatstarted with the Strikethrough earlier this year." Add your comment, fill in the responses, be counted.

I intend to post a summary of the how-to-migrate, how-to-cross-post stuff (mostly for [info]nymphish, aka [info]ferret_shock *hugs best mate*) soon; I'm just finding the whole thing a little wearing right now. Bah humbug! Seriously, this whole business is pissing me off so much. I want my community back and I want people to be able to read/write fanfic and discuss DH in peace. Bastards!

Having spent the afternoon faffing on with both GJ and IJ, I've come to the conclusion that I prefer IJ (except for the user interface colour schemes, all of which suck) and its more up-to-date code. I think I'll be routing most of my traffic through IJ (comments, flist etc) henceforth. So I have been on a friending exercise...

alaana_fair, alisanne, aoife, calico_jynx, celandineb, charlotteschaos, darklocket, eeyore9990, elfflame, emmagrant01, enchanted_jae, ferret_shock, fourth_rose, frayach, furiosity, hd_obsession, jamie2109, kit, legomymalfoy, lillithium, nessime_lisen, oceaxe, piratesmile331, ravenna_c_tan, sansa1970, silentauror, softly_sweetly, twistedmiracle

This was everyone whose name I recognised. I'm sure I've missed a few. If you think you should be on my IJ flist, shout me!

Now it's time for leftover curry, dealing with icons and then logging on to Everquest. Oh, and if someone could direct me to a good set of "LJ are wankers" icons, I'd appreciate it muchly.

TTFN!

Bah humbug!

I hate this!

I hate having to cross-post (although it does actually work quite well). I hate the fact that GJ has old code and can't do half the things I want. I hate that IJ's interface is so offensive (I thought ppl were exaggerating about that, but no, it's horrid). I hate that I'm going to have to spend hours setting up both GJ and IJ to look in any way acceptable. I hate that I will have to choose a singe site (probably GJ) to route all my comments through.

I really fucking hate that LJ/SA are being such bastards about everything. And this horrifies and disgusts me. See [info]coffeechica's post and subsequent thread for where it really gets unpleasant.

Just... No.

So.... If Brad goes to Google, might Google have its own blogging tools in the near future? I kind of like that idea...
